The Scilly Isles

Isles of Scilly Steamship Company Ltd was formed on 26th March 1920 and the first Scillonian began regular trips on Thursday 2nd February 1926. Since then the company has continually operated the shipping service which is a life line for the Isles of Scilly. In 1984 Skybus was formed and began scheduled commercial passenger flights in April 1987. Skybus operates regular scheduled flights from Land’s End, Newquay, Exeter, Bristol and Southampton. The airport at Land’s End not only hosts Skybus but through Westward Airways offers the opportunity to learn to fly.

Take a short cut to Scilly with flights from Southampton (approx 90 mins), Bristol (approx 30 mins) Exeter (approx 60 mins), Newquay (approx 30 mins) and Land's End (approx 15 mins).

We have extended our up country services again for 2007. During the main season we will now be flying 6 days a week from Southampton, Bristol, Exeter, Newquay and Land’s End

Southampton offers extra flights and has excellent transport connections for that ideal get away, Bristol operating additional flights on Mondays and Fridays, Exeter encompass daily flights plus 2 flights on Saturdays, Newquay and Land’s End both offer regular daily flights either for day trips or longer stays

Travel By Sea aboard Scillonian III

Sail from Penzance, and take in the spectacular South Cornish coastline as you cruise to the islands. Quaint Cornish fishing coves, the world renowned open air Minack Theatre, and the dramatic Land's End slip quietly by. Your approach to Scilly on a high tide bring Tresco and St. Martins into sight, and if you arrive at low water Gugh and St. Agnes come into view on the ship's port side. Either way your arrival by sea is an enchanting start to your holiday.

2007 marks a milestone for Scillonian III, she will have been in service for 30 Years! Scillonian III was commissioned and built for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company, by Appledore Shipbuilders Ltd in Devon with work starting in 1973. She sailed her maiden voyage on 19th May 1997 and since then has become a signature sight of the islands and a preferred method of travel for many visitors and islanders alike.

Scillonian III sails from Penzance to St Mary’s (the main island) daily from 2nd April until 3rd November 2007 Monday to Saturday including bank holidays and there are additional Sunday sailings in August. Sailing from Penzance around 0915 in the morning from Penzance, departing from St Mary’s at 1630 (times are approximate please check times when booking as some dates are effected by extreme tides).

You can relax as you sail past Newlyn, Mousehole, the Minack Theatre and Wolf Rock Lighthouse in the 2 hours 40 mins (approx) it takes to get to your destination. You can sometimes see dolphins and basking sharks that are regularly sited in the area. Onboard we offer refreshments at the bar or buffet, also souvenirs, gifts and guide books which are available from our shop. Other facilities include a stair lift and baby changing room.
